At the 89th Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF89), the General Secretariat of Telecommunications and Posts, in collaboration with GRNET, hosted the high-level panel discussion “Building the Future of Quantum Technologies in Greece” on Wednesday, 10 September 2025, at the Central Stage of Pavilion 12 of the Ministry of Digital Governance and Artificial Intelligence.
The event brought together distinguished representatives from government, academia, research, and industry, including the General Secretary of Telecommunications and Posts Mr. Konstantinos Karantzalos, as well as leading experts from National Centre of Scientific Research “Demokritos”, Foundation for Research & Technology (FORTH), National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA), Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH), National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), Qubitech, Space Hellas, and GRNET – National Infrastructures for Research and Technology.
Moderated by Prof. Kleomenis Tsiganis (AUTH), the discussion explored the latest developments in quantum communication technologies and how they are poised to transform Greece’s research, innovation, and digital security landscape.

During the event, the latest developments in quantum technologies were highlighted, along with the ways in which they can position Greece at the forefront of research, innovation, and digital security. The discussion also addressed the challenges and opportunities ahead for the country, with particular emphasis on the importance of collaboration and the creation of resilient infrastructures. Through initiatives such as HellasQCI, Greece reaffirms its commitment to building a national quantum communication infrastructure capable of strengthening the protection of sensitive data and critical national assets.
The panel generated strong interest and active participation from the audience, demonstrating that the interventions were both substantial and highly relevant. The continued support of the General Secretariat of Telecommunications and Posts and the Ministry of Digital Governance and Artificial Intelligence underscores the strategic importance of advancing quantum technologies, as the future of digital security is being shaped today.
The event was followed by ~30 attendees on site and 1,457 citizens online via livestream.
