SEEWQCI, a project coordinated by GRNET, was represented at the 21st Panhellenic Conference of the Union of Greek Physicists (Ένωση Ελλήνων Φυσικών), held in Larisa, Greece, from 24 to 26 April 2026 under the theme “Physics in the Age of Artificial Intelligence: Research Developments and Prospects for 21st Century Physics”.
During the opening session dedicated to Quantum Information, covering quantum computers, the quantum internet and quantum cryptography, Dr Leandros Maglaras, Special Adviser for Cybersecurity at the General Secretariat of Telecommunications and Posts at the Ministry of Digital Governance and Project Security Officer for SEEWQCI, delivered a talk entitled “Cryptography — Transition to the Quantum Era: Quantum Key Distribution Protocols and Post-Quantum Cryptography”.
His talk showcased SEEWQCI as a practical bridge from national quantum pilots to an interoperable, operational EuroQCI, a cross‑border initiative that links Greece, Cyprus, Bulgaria and the Netherlands to deliver resilient, scalable quantum-secure communications across the region. SEEWQCI is building a strategic quantum corridor that combines terrestrial quantum key distribution (QKD) with satellite‑enabled QKD (EAGLE‑1). At the core of the project is a 1,100 km terrestrial QKD backbone connecting Greece and Bulgaria, positioning Greece as a gateway for secure quantum routes into Central and Western Europe.
