The NIS Cooperation Group, a body established under the NIS2 Directive to facilitate strategic cooperation and information exchange among EU Member States on the security of network and information systems, has launched a survey to gather feedback for guiding the next steps towards a quantum-safe European digital infrastructure. This is a pivotal initiative that will shape Europe’s strategy for safeguarding digital communications in the upcoming era of quantum computing.

The transition to quantum-resistant cryptography (PQC and QKD) is essential to protect both Greece’s and Europe’s critical infrastructures and services. The consultation provides a unique opportunity for the Greek scientific and technological community to highlight its needs, priorities, and specific considerations within the European strategy—helping to define the path toward a secure, quantum-resistant digital future.

Greece has consistently demonstrated technological maturity and leadership in quantum communications at the European level. Recent top-ranking distinctions for the SEEWQCI and TransEuroOGS projects underscore the country’s strategic importance in the EuroQCI initiative. The ongoing HellasQCI project—coordinated by GRNET since 2023 under the guidance of the Greek Ministry of Digital Governance and with the support of the General Secretariat for Telecommunications and Post—has paved the way for these achievements. It is advancing secure quantum infrastructure, linking Greece to key European partners, and shaping the national quantum communications ecosystem. Contributing to the PQC roadmap is therefore essential to reinforcing Greece’s position in the field.

HellasQCI kindly invites all stakeholders to take part in the consultation by submitting their views and proposals: Survey – EU Roadmap for Post-Quantum Cryptography – here
