The heart of Quantum Communications beats in Greece

After Spain and Austria, the key for hosting the next QCI Days event passed to Greece, GRNET, the HellasQCI Coordinator! Next year, Spring 2025, this well-established event that gathers Quantum Communications experts and policy makers from all over Europe will take place in Athens.

Greece is very honoured to host this event under the auspices of the Hellenic Ministry of Digital Governance and co-organise it with Austria (QCI-Cat), Spain (EuroQCI Spain) and Portugal (PTQCI). 

Dr. Ilias Papastamatiou stated that: “Greece is honoured to host this well-established event. QCI Days in Athens promises to be a remarkable occasion, fostering collaboration and advancing the shared goals of creating an operational and secure EuroQCI. We are very honoured that the Greek Hellenic Ministry of Digital Governance already put the upcoming event under its auspices, signaling the importance of EuroQCI for Greece but also recognizing how successful this event is so far. We aim to keep the momentum and continue the successful continuation of the QCI Days from Madrid to Vienna and now in Athens.

QCI Days Vienna 2024

The QCI Days Vienna 2024, 25-26 January,  was organised by the AIT Austrian Institute of Technology and the QCI-CAT project. During these two days, Quantum Communications experts from all over Europe met and discussed the latest trends and developments in quantum-secure communication.

HellasQCI, a project coordinated by The National Infrastructures for Research and Technology – GRNET, operating under the auspices of the Greek Ministry of Digital Governance, participated in the event and shared important information.

Dr. I. Papastamatiou, GRNET, HellasQCI Coordinator and Prof. G.Kanellos, NKUA, HellasQCI Technical Coordinator represented the project.

During the “Digital Europe Programme” session, Dr. Ilias Papastamatiou shared key 2023 project’s insights, updates and achievements. These included the Use Cases and the QKD experiments performed, as well as, the HellasQCI networks architecture, trainings and the launch of the training platform.

Additionally, Prof. G.Kanellos participated in the “Satellite and Free-Space QKD” session, with a presentation on “OGS Integration in the HellasQCI Terrestrial QKD Segment in the Framework of EUROQCI, and contributed at the Panel Discussion: Satellite and Free-Space QKD.

HellasQCI experts participating at this event offered a great opportunity to discuss the newest trends in quantum-secure communication and convene with other National Quantum Flagship projects as well as specialists, from industry, R&D and policy makers in the fields of quantum communication and cybersecurity.
