On December 5th, 2023, in the presence of European Commissioner for Internal Market Thierry Breton, the Spanish Presidency issued a declaration to strengthen collaboration among Member States and with the Commission on the development of a world-class quantum technology ecosystem across Europe. The declaration recognises the strategic importance of quantum technologies for the scientific and industrial competitiveness of the EU.

11 Member States have endorsed the declaration (with the anticipation for more Members to join) and have pledged to work together with the Commission on a number of key areas, including coordination of European, national regional research and development programmes, accelerating the transition from lab to fab, building pan-European quantum infrastructures, including the European Quantum Communication Infrastructure (EuroQCI) Initiative. The 11 Member States that have endorsed the Declaration are the following: France, Belgium, Croatia, Greece, Finland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Czech Republic, Malta, Estonia and Spain.

In the context of EuroQCI, GRNET coordinates the HellasQCI project aiming to deploy advanced national Quantum Communication Infrastructure systems & networks in Greece.
